‘Oh, I’ve been meaning to do that!’
‘It just keeps slipping my mind!’
‘I’ll do it once I’ve bought a house.’
Sound familiar?
It’s surprisingly common for people (particularly younger people who may not own property or have children) to not have a Will in place.
It might be because they don’t think that they need one yet, or that getting a Will is too expensive. But that isn’t true!
Below, we look at some common misconceptions around Wills.
‘My family will automatically inherit my assets.’
It’s often believed that if you die unexpectedly, your spouse/civil partner, parents or children will automatically inherit anything that you leave behind. However, this isn’t necessarily true. This depends on the size of your estate, as well as the rules of intestacy. This means that your loved ones may not receive the amount of money or certain items that you’d like them to.
‘It’s too expensive.’
Many people worry about the cost of a legally binding Will. Our prices are reasonable, and the security that a written Will provides ensures that you and your loved ones save money in the long run.
Our standard single Will is £99, a standard mirror Will is £150, and a Lasting Power of Attorney is £198, which will give your family peace of mind if the worst should happen.
We also offer free Wills for NHS staff.
‘I don’t have any assets to include.’
Even if you don’t own an expensive asset like property or a car, it’s very likely that you’ll still have assets that you’ll need to include in a Will. For example, this could be money in a bank account, pension or life insurance plan, jewellery or watches, furniture, or even trusts or shares. Put simply, if you own anything that you’d like to be inherited by relatives, friends, or a charity in the event of your death – you need to have a Will.
‘It’s too complicated.’
At The Will Guys, we pride ourselves on writing Wills in plain English, with no fuss. We’ll make the process easy for you to understand, and ensure that you and your family are protected if you should pass away.
